Your Mental Health-Being

Your mental health influences how you think, feel, and behave in daily life. It also affects your ability to cope with stress, overcome challenges, build relationships, and recover from life’s setbacks and hardships. Strong mental health isn’t just the absence of mental health problems. Being mentally or emotionally healthy is much more than being free of depression, anxiety, or other psychological issues. Rather than the absence of mental illness, mental health refers to the presence of positive characteristics..

Loss and Bereavement therapy

The loss of a loved person remains one of the most intensely painful experiences any human being can suffer. Not only is it painful to experience but also painful to witness. Feelings commonly associated with grief are: fear, anger and rage sadness, guilt and sorrow loneliness and isolation anxiety and depression. In therapy the normal stages of bereavement can be addressed and worked through.

Marriage Counseling

Divorce is not always the solution to a failed marriage. If discord or unhappiness of any sort is experienced in the relationship, marriage counselling could prevent further unhappiness. Sources of unhappiness may be communication problems, conflict management; adjustment problems or compatibility/personality styles. Divorce causes a lot of pain, such as the agony of dividing up children, possessions and putting aside treasured dreams.

Sex Therapy

Recent evidence suggests that sexual problems/dysfunctions commonly occur in persons who function well in other areas and have no other psychological symptoms. Sexual dysfunctions can, however, be a source of great unhappiness for a couple, since the problem affects both. It is thus worthwhile to work on the problem, before it becomes too big an issue.

Life Threatening Diseases (Cancer and HIV/AIDS)

When faced with a life-threatening disease, the mind needs to be strong to help the body cope with the illness. Psycho-neuro-immunology (PNI) is a essential part of therapy to ensure quality of life.

Trauma

Trauma is regarded as an “abnormal” experience which is so excessively stressful as to be most likely to result in symptoms of an acute stress reaction. After a traumatic event it is recommended to consult a psychologist, because, if untreated, the result may be Post Traumatic Stress. Don’t underestimate the effects of a traumatic event (high-jacking, smash–and-grab, pick-pocketing, eye witnessing a crime). Grant yourself the opportunity to put this in perspective.

Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse is defined as the involvement of developmentally immature children and adolescent in sexual activities they do not truly comprehend and which they are unable to give informed consent. Not only is sexual abuse harmful for a minor, but the effects of childhood sexual abuse in adults can lead to depression, guilt, low self-esteem, anxiety, anger and sexual disorders.
